Homenetmen Jerusalem Honors Prof.
Manuel Hassassian
Saturday, the 12th of November 2005, at
Homenetmen Jerusalem's main hall, a special dinner was given in honor of
the organization's member Prof. Manuel Hassassian for his appointment as
an Ambassador of the Palestinian Authority to the United Kingdom.
The event was under the patronage of the
ARF Jerusalem Committee, under the auspices of His Beatitude Torkom
Arch. Manoogian, the Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem and was
organized by the executive committees of Homenetmen Jerusalem and HOM
Jerusalem. Present at the event, were members of the triple
organizations, the family of Mr. Hassassian, representatives of other
Armenian organization, the board of the St. Tarkmanchatz High School and
other guests.
The event was opened by the national
anthem of Armenia followed by an opening speech of Homenetmen's Chairman
Yeghp. Serop Sahagian, who congratulated Prof. Hassassian and welcomed
everyone to the event. On behalf of HOM Jerusalem, Ungh. Noemi
Nalbandian, the Chairwoman, congratulated Prof. Hassassian and wished
him good luck. One of Prof. Manuel's friends, namely Mr. K. Hintilian,
took the podium to express himself on this occasion. Next was the
reciting of Rudyard Kipling's well known poem "If", represented by the
Secretary of Homentmen Jerusalem Yeghp. Harout Baghamian, who was also
the Master of Ceremonies. The representative of ARF Jerusalem Committee,
Ungh. Georgette Avakian, was next on stage to give her party's
congratulatory speech where she mentioned Prof. Hassassian's efforts
throughout the years concerning the Hai Tad.
After Ungh. Avakian's speech, the
participants of the event were invited to a dinner and a music break.
Then the stage was kept opened for all those who wished to express
themselves on the occasion. Mr. Yeghia Dikranian, the Headmaster of the
St. Tarkmanchatz High School, who was also the teacher of Prof.
Hassassian, made his remarks and talked highly about Prof. Manuel and
said that his appointment as an ambassador did not surprise him, for he
was a strong believer of his success from his earlier years as his
student. Then Dr. Anoush Nakkashian took the podium and expressed
herself on the occasion. Afterwards, His Excellency Prof. M. Hassassian
was invited to the stage to give his speech, where he promised to stay
the strong defender of the Armenian Case and the Armenian Community of
Jerusalem, from his newly elected position. Finally, His Beatitude was
invited to make the closing words and to give his blessings on the
occasion.
The event came to its close at 10:00pm.
